There are some proactive steps families can take to improve the situation; reset the core health of the entire family for starts through good nutrition. Especially caregivers. Avoid toxic food. There is a very special relationship we humans have with our microbiome; our gut bacteria. Our central processing unit, our brains depend on the neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine to mention a few, they are produced in the lower gut. Our microbiome is the engine that drives our life, the gut bacteria/brain function axis, as it is known in modern medicine; finally. Over 90% of the DNA in our bodies is foreign, non-human.These essential feel good neurotransmitters can only be produced if prebiotics (veggies) are ingested by the host; us. Also, toxic substances, especially sugar are known to disrupt this delicate balance. Sugar binds to the opiate uptake receptors in our brains, disrupting the message to the microbiome to produce natural feel good brain chemistry; your hooked for life when this happens. Sadly most kids eat 3 pounds of sugar every week; their parents feed it to them. Our microbes are literally poisoned when they come into contact with sugar. Take care of your gut bacteria, and they will take good care of you. That includes high grade fat in our diets, contrary to the advice of healthcare experts. Failure to do so can result in unwanted consequences. Our kids need real food to reset their core health; not psychotropic drugs. The Brain Maker by Dr. David Perlmutter is taking center stage in our understanding of human health. Most of the doctors in charge of our nation's mental health know little or nothing of this "new science"; it was not on the course at med school. It is that simple. Some doctor's are jumping on the nutrition bandwagon, but they are still tying treatment to pharmaceuticals "in conjunction with diet". Skip the pharmaceuticals; try resetting the core health with real food.
